Between Pesach and Shavuot it is customary to learn Ethics of the Fathers. In chapter 4:1 Ben Zoma says “איזהו חכם הלומד מכּל אדם”, “Who is wise? The one who learns from every person”.
Psychological benefits
There are myriad psychological benefits attained from recognizing the talents and skills of those around you. Research has shown that being mindful of positivity in your life decreases stress, increases happiness and improves overall well being. Recognizing what other’s have to offer increases teamwork and productivity and facilitates deeper connections and a sense of appreciation for those you encounter.
A challenge
During these weeks between Pesach and Shavuot, I encourage you to keep a What I have learned from other’s journal. Each day consciously and deliberately take notice of other’s qualities or skills that you can learn from. I invite you to share these revelations in the Refuat Hanefesh support room for your own benefit as well as those who read it. Let’s use this important teaching to improve our wisdom, skills, personality and ultimately mental health.
